Shake Shack’s burgers will have to share the sandwich spotlight: the chain is adding a fried chicken sandwich to its menu.
The Chick’n Shack will debut nationwide on Thursday, after the restaurant tested out the sandwich at its Brooklyn, N.Y. locations. The test was a success, ABC reports, with the chicken sandwich becoming one of the top five best selling food items.
The Chick’n Shack will feature fried chicken, pickles, lettuce and buttermilk herb mayo atop a bun. Anticipation for the sandwich began building in May, when Shake Shack founder Danny Meyer filed a trademark application for the name “Chicken Shack.”
Shake Shack added the Chick’n Shack as an option for anyone who has a beef with beef. CEO Randy Garutti said Tuesday that the new menu item will let it expand its offerings, about one-third of which are currently beef-based. Shake Shack had already offered chicken on its menu in hot dog-form.
