Brother of Making a Murderer Subject Made a Rap Song Called ‘They Didn’t Do It’

Another Making a Murderer-inspired song has been released, but it has more personal connection than Dan Auerbach and The Arcs.

Brad Dassey, the half-brother of Brendan Dassey, one of the convicted subjects in Netflix’s docu-series, penned and recorded a rap song with a straightforward title: “They Didn’t Do It.” In addition to claiming Brendan and Steven Avery are innocent, he further accuses Manitowoc County (Wisc.) of evading due process.

“Not a fair trial, not a fair game/ Whole thing’s wack, just a lyin’ shame,” Brad Dassey says — a Christian hip-hop, indie artist — during the hook of the song, which he worked on for “10 hours straight.”

Brendan Dassey and Avery were convicted in 2007 in the murder of Teresa Halbach. On Tuesday, Avery appealed his murder conviction by claiming he was “deprived of impartial jury.” Avery is serving a life sentence without chance for parole, while Brendan Dassey is up for parole in 2048.
