Here’s Why Everyone Is Watching This Puddle in the North of England

1 minute read

The British obsession with the weather went global on Wednesday when thousands of people tuned in to watch a live stream of a puddle.

The oddly captivating puddle in question is in northeastern city of Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K., and was put online by marketing company Drummond Central at 11.30 a.m. GMT. The viewers of #DrummondPuddleWatch are also using a chatroom alongside the stream to cheer on pedestrians trying to avoid getting wet.

Richard Rippon, the social media manager at the firm, says the puddle which can be seen from their office was initially set up as a joke.

“It was an amusement watching people through the window trying to negotiate the puddle, so we decided to set up a camera” says Rippon.

In less than three hours, the number of puddle watcher blew up when it began trending on Twitter and garnered close to 20,000 live streams.
