Did we collectively hit our heads and wake up in 1998 again? Last month R&B singer Monica released a new album, Code Red, and now Brandy—her duet partner on the ’90s classic “That Boy Is Mine“—just released a new song coinciding with her first starring role on television since her Moesha days (that’s two decades ago!).
The singer, who last year starred in the Broadway production of Chicago, shared the bluesy new tune “Beggin & Pleadin” following the premiere of her BET sitcom Zoe Ever After. It’s unclear if this is the first taste of a new album or just a one-off jam, but Brandy did say she was hitting the studio last year to work on a new record, so her first full-length since 2012 might be on its way. Now we just need that buzzed-about Ariana Grande-Jessie J remake of “That Boy Is Mine” for it to really be a ’90s throwback.
