Dave Grohl Honors Lemmy With Motörhead Tattoo

Dave Grohl paid tribute to Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, who died Dec. 28 at age 70, in a very permanent way: The Foo Fighters frontman got Motörhead’s Ace of Spades logo tattooed on his wrist, according to an Instagram posted by the tattoo artist.

Kilmister formed Motörhead with Larry Wallis and Lucas Fox in 1975, and remained with the band even as the lineup continually changed over a span of 22 albums. Ace of Spades was the group’s fourth album, released in 1980.

Foo Fighters also remembered Kilmister by posting a short note on their official Facebook page Dec. 28: “We’ve lost a friend & legend,” they wrote. “My heart is broken. RIP Lemmy. Born To Lose, Lived To Win.”

Grohl and the Foo Fighters were joined by dozens of other artists who spoke about Lemmy after his death. His longtime friend and peer Ozzy Osbourne remembered him in an emotional article with Rolling Stone. “He lived the rock & roll lifestyle to the max, but still it’s sad when you lose a friend like that,” he said. Other rockers likeMetallica’s Kirk Hammett, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, and Nirvana’s Krist Novoselić also paid their respects.
