Marvel thought its new superhero Doctor Strange would be safe from prying eyes in remote Nepal. But, alas, Cumberbabes and Cumberbros are everywhere.
Benedict Cumberbatch, who’s starring in Marvel’s 2016 adaptation of Doctor Strange, traveled to Kathmandu to film exterior shots of the movie in early November, where producers imagined he could go undetected. Cute idea.
“We were shooting in some of the public areas, and the crowds that turned out for Benedict weren’t like anything I’ve ever seen in 30 years in the business,” executive producer Charles Newirth told Entertainment Weekly. “It was like the Beatles showed up after The Ed Sullivan Show. He did one thing one day where he just popped his head out of a window just to say ‘Hi’ to the fans and it just erupted into just love and adoration. There were girls that were crying and hugging each other when they saw him go by. It was really remarkable.”
Entertainment Weekly also got a first look at Cumberbatch in his costume for the film, which hits theaters Nov. 4, 2016.
