
It wouldn’t be December without lists ranking the best movies (and, well, the best everything) of the year. The Tastebud blog decided to gather data from 45 of these best movie lists to create one big, comprehensive ranking. Some of the publications represented included the New York Times, BuzzFeed, TIME, ScreenCrush and Business Insider.
Here’s the methodology behind the list, according to Tastebud:
This list was generated by taking the top 10 films from each of the 45 ranked lists (88 unique movies in all) and then assigning a score to those movies based on how many times they appeared in the top 10 and how highly they were ranked. Points were assigned by Tastebud as follows: 10 points for being ranked #1 on a given list, 9 points for #2, 8 points for #3…1 point for #10.
After tallying the scores, these were the year’s top 10 most acclaimed films:
