A truck hauling nearly 3,000 piglets overturned on a North Carolina highway Tuesday, spilling the animals onto the road and causing massive traffic delays.
Some of the pigs were killed and others were seriously injured after the tractor-trailer lost control about 10 a.m. and spiraled down an embankment off Interstate 40 West in Raleigh, N.C., WRAL-TV reports. Other piglets ran amuck until animal control workers rounded them up. It’s unclear how many survived.
Police said the driver of another vehicle had changed lanes in front of the truck, running it off the road, according to the news station. That motorist was charged with an unsafe lane change. No humans were seriously injured in the accident, authorities said.
