A man who stopped traffic on a Houston, Texas, interstate Sunday to propose to his girlfriend now faces charges.
After popping the question to Michelle Wycoff amid honking cars, Vidal Valladares will be charged with obstruction of highway, a Class B misdemeanor, facing a maximum sentence of 6 months jail time and a $2,000 fine, Houston Police Department spokesperson Jodi Silva told The Houston Chronicle. The Texas Department of Transportation also called the gesture “illegal” and “incredibly unsafe” in a statement to the newspaper, while social media users denounced the stunt as irresponsible on the ABC 13 Eyewitness News Facebook page.
“It’s really hard to see those comments,” Wycoff said in an emotional interview with the news station. “We’re really sorry.”
Valladares added, “I really apologize if I made you guys go to work late.”
But, hey, she did say yes.
