Adele is back in the limelight with a newly announced tour, a new album that has sold more than five million copies, and a concert in Radio City Music Hall that airs Monday night on NBC. The new album, 25, adds another notch to the already over-achieving chanteuse: It marks the first time one of her songs, “Hello,” has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 100 chart.
“Hello” is Adele’s fourth #1 hit, but in the past her other hits, like “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You,” have climbed their way to the top over several weeks and months. Either way, reaching the top of the charts is no easy feat for even the most popular artists. Taylor Swift has had four songs top the Billboard charts as well, including her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar on “Bad Blood,” and Beyoncé has had five including collaborations. Maybe there’s something to be said for making fans wait four years between albums.
