It looks like Rihanna fans won’t get the December surprise they’ve been hoping for. In a fresh BBC interview, Sia commented that she recently played tracks for Rihanna so the singer could choose some for her upcoming eighth album, Anti, which suggests that RiRi’s long-awaited collection is far from the near-finished state many expected.
“The other night she came over and listened to half of 25 songs I played her because she’s still looking for songs for her new album,” said Sia, who co-wrote Rihanna’s 2012 hit “Diamonds.” “She was there to listen to songs and see if there was anything that she was into. It was a business meeting for sure. She took four [songs] but I don’t know if they’ll end up [on the album].”
As speculation surrounding Anti continues to mount — it was already at a fever-pitch when Rihanna teamed with Paul McCartney and Kanye West for “FourFiveSeconds” back in January — the singer has dished out red herring after red herring when it comes to the record’s release. Rihanna followed “FourFiveSeconds” with “Bitch Better Have My Money” and “American Oxygen” in the spring, shared Anti’s artwork in October, and launched a new website late last month that many thought (incorrectly) would include the album. Even Adele wants this sucker to drop.
