Last Week Tonight is on hiatus, but John Oliver returned for a web exclusive to bring tidings of great importance: How to re-gift properly this holiday season.
“During the holidays, you’re going to receive at least one profoundly underwhelming gift,” said Oliver.”That’s just a fact.” As you practice your poker face and brace for “the sort of jaw dropping disappointment that one normally associates with the term ‘lettuce wrap’,” Oliver has a few pointers on how to spread the joy of a scented candle (a.k.a. “a candle that’s extra desperate for attention”) to someone who may not share your disinterest in burning towers of wax.
To help this holiday season, Oliver crafted a guide to re-gifting, which he describes as “the easiest way to pawn off something you can’t stand aside from sending your child to summer camp.” In the video guide, he offers helpful tips for personalizing and disguising re-gifts in the hopes of finding that unwanted a gift a new—and hopefully more grateful—home.
One thing you won’t want to re-gift? Your John Oliver action figure.
