An update to the Uber app will make it much easier for drivers to pick up fares more efficiently.
The new “destinations” feature allows drivers to only see requests from potential riders along a predetermined route while filtering out other requests. Through this option, drivers can more easily pick up customers on the way to the same area where they’re already driving.
The tool could help spur Uber’s many part-time drivers to pick up more riders. It could also encourage more people to consider becoming Uber drivers by making the process of picking up and dropping off riders less time-consuming. Currently, more than 60% of Uber’s drivers in the U.S. have another full-time or part-time job, according to The Verge.
Right now the feature is being tested in San Francisco. Uber plans to roll it out to other cities in the future.
