The star-studded new video for NERVO’s “The Other Boys” was something of a happy accident. The song, taken from the Australian DJ-producer duo’s July debut album Collateral, was originally just a collaboration with Scissor Sisters singer Jake Shears. But Shears couldn’t contain his excitement about the sizzling dance track while he was hanging out with pal Kylie Minogue, who gave it a listen and promptly asked NERVO if she could get in on the action. (And when Kylie Minogue wants to be a guest on your album, you don’t say no.)
Even Chic guitarist and disco icon Nile Rodgers, who later topped off “The Other Boys” with a lively guitar solo and appears in the new video, was a little overwhelmed by the collaboration. “Kylie Minogue, Jake Shears, and me with NERVO? Really?” he tells TIME. “This was a delightful disco-dream come true.”
Filming the dance-heavy video, which premieres on TIME today, was just as festive an occasion. “It was just one of those shoots where everybody was happy to be there, and we had great time getting to hang and dance around,” Shears says. “It was Aussie overload in the best way with those three girls. I could write an album out of all the funny stuff that falls out of their mouths.” Sounds like a pretty awesome kiki.
