Sandra Bullock reminisced about the first time she met longtime pal, George Clooney, on Monday night during the Los Angeles premiere of her new film Our Brand Is Crisis.
Bullock recalled to Access Hollywood how Clooney played the perfect wingman to a guy she “would have liked [to be her] boyfriend at the time.”
“When I came out after I spent time with George, George went to him and said, ‘If you don’t marry her, I will,” the 51-year-old said. “George is not gonna marry anybody except for Amal. He was waiting 30 years to do that.”
Still, she said Clooney’s quips are what started a four-year romance with the mutual friend.
“But that was sort of the thing that sort of got him to just hang with me, the boyfriend,” Bullock said. “So we were together for four years after that, thanks to George.”
Of course, the mother of one has since moved on. The A-list actress recently went public with her relationship with new beau Bryan Randall, who was in attendance at Monday nights premiere.
Although the romance is still fresh, it’s clear the pair are enjoying one another’s company and a source close to Randall’s family told PEOPLE, “He’s a great guy.”
Our Brand is Crisis opens on Friday.
