Laverne Cox will play Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a role made famous 40 years ago by Tim Curry, in Fox’s remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the network revealed on Wednesday.
Cox came to fame on the Netflix show Orange is the New Black and became the first transgender actress of color to receive a primetime Emmy nomination before she signed up to play the cross-dressing alien mad scientist in Fox’s reboot of the classic film.
Kenny Ortega will choreograph, direct and executive produce the two-hour special, while Lou Adler and Gail Berman will also join the project as executive producers, Entertainment Weekly reports. The film will likely premiere in the fall of 2016.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show film swept to fame in 1975 and has since become a cult classic, often screening at movie theaters around Halloween every year.
