ABC is developing a half hour comedy based on the 1997 Julia Roberts film My Best Friend’s Wedding.
The film’s Oscar-winning screenwriter Ron Bass is writing the script with Jessica Amento, and original producers Jerry Zucker and Janet Zucker will executive produce with Bass and Mike Menchel.
The series is set to pick up where the film left off with Roberts’ character Julianne navigating life in New York City with her best friend George.
The movie, starring Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Dermot Mulroney and Rupert Everett, had three Golden Globe nominations and one Academy Award nomination. Though it is perhaps best known for its rendition of the song “I Say a Little Prayer For You.”
The ABC series isn’t the only remake, though. A Chinese remake is set to hit theaters in February of 2016.
So is it that movies are like creme brulee and TV is like Jell-O? Or the other way around? We’ll have to wait and see.
