Fox has found its Frenchy for its live production of Grease: Canadian pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen will fill the role played by Didi Conn in the classic movie version.
Jepsen joins several other celebrities who have already signed on to the project: Julianne Hough will play Sandy, Vanessa Hudgens will play Rizzo and Aaron Tveit will play Danny.
Fox is following a trend that has proved lucrative for its competitor network, NBC, which saw big success in live stagings of Peter Pan and The Sound of Music in recent years; NBC will air The Wiz LIVE! on Dec. 3. Fox’s Grease is scheduled for a Jan. 31 premiere.
