Banksy Says He’s Sending Dismaland Theme Park to Migrant Camp

Materials from Banksy’s Dismaland theme park will be repurposed to make shelters for migrants at a camp in northern France, the mysterious artist announced on his website.

“All the timber and fixtures from Dismaland are being sent to the ‘jungle’ refugee camp near Calais to build shelters,” the site reads. “No online tickets will be available.”

Billed as a “bemusement park,” the dystopian spoof of theme parks featured “attractions” such as a dead princess and a rundown castle as well as works from more than 50 artists, including Damien Hurst and Jenny Holzer. The exhibit opened Aug. 22 and closed on Sept. 27. Banksy says the park was not an attack on Disney. “I don’t have an issue with Disney,” the anonymous artist wrote. “Some Disney is very good, the ‘Let It Go’ sequence in Frozen is brilliant.”

Dismaland attracted more than 150,000 visitors who paid about $5 to enter, Reuters reports.
