Vice President Joe Biden will be allowed to participate in the first Democratic presidential primary debate if he decides to run, according to rules released Monday by CNN.
The criteria require participants in the Oct. 13 Democratic debate to have filed a statement of candidacy, or publicly announce they will file a statement of candidacy by Oct. 14. It also requires candidates to have achieved at least 1% in a combination of three national polls released between Aug. 1 and Oct. 10.
Biden, who has not yet announced whether or not he will seek the White House in 2016, would fulfill that criteria if he decides to join the race.
Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Martin O’Malley, Lincoln Chafee and Jim Webb have all been invited to the first Democratic National Committee-sanctioned debate in Las Vegas. The debate will be moderated by Anderson Cooper.
