Vin Diesel Is Planning a Final Fast & Furious Trilogy

Instead of one last ride, how about one last trilogy? On Friday, via his popular Facebook page, Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel wrote that he planned to produce a trilogy of films to end the franchise.

“Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision… they have been like family,” Diesel wrote. “I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga.”

Diesel’s news comes just days after sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the process of bringing Fast & Furious 8 to the screen has proved difficult. That film is set for release on April 14, 2017, but does not yet have a director. According to THR, Diesel “must be consulted on director choices.”

Diesel didn’t make direct reference to the THR piece, but did allude to the trouble with finding the right person for the Fast 8 job.

“My producing partner Neal [Moritz] would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise, so these matters have to be very carefully handled,” Diesel wrote. “To be clear, NO ONE has been offered to helm Fast 8 yet… let alone seen a script.” According to Diesel, he will announce the “directors” for the final trilogy of films with his next Facebook post.

This isn’t the first time Diesel has discussed making an even 10 Fast & Furious movies. Back in 2013, during press for Fast & Furious 6, Diesel told Moviefone, “I think the debate is whether it’s 7, 8, 9 or 7, 8, 9, 10. I know, it doesn’t even make sense.”
