While the xx is busy playing a residency of 25 intimate shows at New York’s Park Avenue Armory, the band’s ringleader Jamie xx still found time to release a new track.
The track, “Sleep Sound,” is quietly beautiful, filled with abstruse melodies that swirl and fade; it manages to sound both sparse and overflowing simulataneously. The gently emotional track plays like the xx at its best and could as easily soundtrack a gallery opening as a shopping trip to an uber-hip boutique… and, in fairness, it probably will.
“Sleep Sound,” was originally debuted late last year during a BBC 6 set by Jamie xx and will be released on a forthcoming 12″ single along with “Girl” on May 5 via Young Turks.
