Watch Hugh Jackman Kickstart the 2015 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

2 minute read

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge swept across the Internet last year, garnering the attention of just about every celebrity and raising awareness and donations in the process. Hugh Jackman is ready for round two.

“I know I’m late but this is the 2015 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge,” he said in a video posted to Twitter on Saturday. Sitting in a bathtub while wearing a white dress shirt and black bowtie, the actor exclaimed “bring it on” before pouring a bucket of ice water over his head.

Jackman included the official Twitter handle for MND Australia, an organization that helps Australians living with motor neuron disease through a collaboration with state MND associations. Pete Frates and Pat Quinn, founders of the Ice Bucket Challenge, relaunched the campaign for 2015 at Fenway Park in Boston at the end of July.

“First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge last year,” Frates said. “Because of you, the needle was greatly moved in the battle against this disease. Please note that this year’s Ice Bucket Challenge is as important as last year. We would not ask you to dump cold water over your head again just for the fun of it.”

Kicking off in 2014, the Ice Bucket Challenge sought to raise awareness of ALS and collect donations to further ALS research and services. Nominated participants had the option of donating to theALS Association or douse themselves with buckets of ice water. They would then nominate three people to take up the cause.

Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Lady Gaga, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Chris Pratt were among the celebrity participants. Jackman, accompanied by the cast and crew of Pan, also took up the cause last year and posted a video showing them getting icy from the set.
