It’s still mad love between Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne, despite a misunderstanding on social media earlier this week.
Swift welcomed Lavigne to the stage in San Diego on Saturday as part of her 1989 world tour, and the duo sang “Complicated,” the 2002 hit that propelled the singer from 5,000-population-town Napanee, Ontario, into pop superstardom.
“ ‘Complicated’ is such a brilliant pop song and I just love her,” Swift wrote of Lavigne on Twitter following their duet.
And in the above photo, courtesy Lavigne’s Instagram, she wrote that it was a “pleasure” to join Swift onstage. “She ROCKS!”
OMI also joined Swift on the Petco Park stage, where he sang his hit “Cheerleader.”
For those unintiated in the latest — and wildly overblown — celebrity beef of the week, Swift liked a post on Tumblr comparing her touchy-feely backstage meet-and-greets to those of other artists, including Lavigne.
The post was brought to Lavigne’s attention on Twitter, where she wrote in reply, “Comparison is judging and judging a person does not define who they are it defines who you are. We all Love our fans.” Lavigne followed up with another tweet containing a photo collage of her looking a little more Swift-esque in her meet-and-greets, writing: “So let’s keep it all about the love and stay positive.”
There’s nothing like inviting an artist onto the stage of your massive world tour to smooth over any misunderstandings and to call a ceasefire between warring fandoms. After all, “Taylor hearts Avril,” so play nice.
