Many book fans have heard the siren song of tattoo parlors and inscribed their favorite literary quotes forever on their bodies. But for readers who, like Alice, are on the fickle side ("it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then"), a temporary tattoo is a better solution.
For the 150th anniversary of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Penguin Classics teamed up with design company Litographs to create temporary tattoos for Viking and Penguin authors. While any fan can ink up the company's Through the Looking Glass design (a drawing of the walrus saying, "The time has come"), Penguin's authors each wore different phrases from the conclusion of Alice in celebration.
The author of The Sense of Style wears "...perhaps even with the dream of Wonderland long ago..."
The author of The Secret Place picked "...remembering her own child-life..."
The translator of The Turnip Princess and Other Newly Discovered Fairy Tales wears "...the simple and loving heart of her childhood..."
The editor of The Penguin Book of Witches wears, "...Lastly, she pictured to herself how this same little sister of hers would..."
The author of Get in Trouble: Stories picks "...and make their eyes bright and eager with many a strange tale..."
