We have our first platinum album of 2015. Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, which is technically a mixtape, became the first album released in 2015 to sell a million copies in the U.S., Billboard reports. According to Nielsen Music, it has now sold 1.007 million copies.
If You’re Reading This… debuted in February through Young Money/Cash Money/Republic Records, and was released as a surprise. Featuring Lil Wayne, Travi$ Scott, and PARTYNEXTDOOR, it became a smash hit, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Drake had previously announced that he would release his studio album,Views From The 6 this year too, but there’s been no word on a release date.
Taylor Swift’s 1989 is the only other album to sell over a million this year — it’s sold 1.463 million in 2015 — but it was released in 2014.
Drake previously went platinum with 2013’s Nothing Was The Same, 2011’s Take Care, and 2010’s Thank Me Later. He’s stoked.
