Dashcam footage released by police shows Charleston shooting suspect Dylann Roof surrendering without incident after a traffic stop in North Carolina, one day after he authorities said he fatally shot nine people at a historic black church.
The video released by Shelby Police Department shows police pulling over the Roof’s Hyundai to the side of the road last Thursday. Officers approach the car cautiously, with at least one officer’s gun drawn as another moves to the driver’s side. Roof appears to comply; police place him in handcuffs and frisk him twice before driving off.
Roof, 21, was spotted in the car by a local florist who called the police. He was extradited back to South Carolina, where he was charged with nine counts of murder and one count of weapon possession. Services for the victims begin later this week.
