Clinton Correctional Facility is getting back to normal after the escape of two inmates from the maximum-security prison.
Officials said in a press conference on Friday that it was necessary to keep the Dannemora, N.Y. prison on lockdown while structural repairs were made to the route Richard Matt and David Sweat used to break out, including fixing the cells, steam tunnels and pipe, concrete walls and manhole cover. Those repairs are now completed, and most normal operations have resumed. Prison visits restarted on Friday, and inmates took their lunch in the mess hall on Thursday and will return to educational and vocational programs next week.
Matt and Sweat’s location remains unknown. Their accused accomplice, prison worker Joyce Mitchell, has been charged with promoting prison contraband and criminal facilitation.
