As soon as real estate tycoon Donald Trump announced Tuesday morning in New York City that he was running for president in 2016, a spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee issued the following statement: “He adds some much-needed seriousness that has previously been lacking from the GOP field, and we look forward hearing more about his ideas for the nation.”
The party also tweeted an additional comment in GIF form ridiculing his “major announcement” at the Trump Tower:
Ooooh, except that maybe Donald Trump will upgrade the GOP clown car to a Rolls-Royce. Zing. pic.twitter.com/Youzbb8Ymg
