Six Republican presidential candidates are gathering in Deer Valley, Utah, this weekend, auditioning for donors—and leading extra-curricular excursions—at a summit organized by former GOP nominee Mitt Romney. Former Obama senior advisor David Axelrod addressed the about 250 attendees Thursday evening, telling them, according to multiple attendees, that he believes voters will want to elect a candidate who is not like President Obama and has more executive experience than the one-term Senator did when he took office in 2009. Obama’s trade hopes face a critical test Friday as the House prepares to vote on giving him trade promotion authority. The president made a surprise trip to Nationals Park Thursday night to lobby House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi on the measure. And Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s efforts to keep a hometown team in his state may be a political liability in 2016.
