On Mother’s Day, a young woman named Kaileen wrote Taylor Swift a note on Tumblr about how the singer helped her recover from the death of her mother last year.
“For a while, I felt empty. But as you’ve done many times before, you filled that hole. You took me out of my sad place and made me happy,” Kaileen wrote. “And because of you, I got through something that was the hardest thing in the world for me. Today’s going to be another hard day, but I know with you on my side I can get through anything.”
Swift, who wrote about her own mother’s cancer diagnosis earlier this year, responded to Kaileen with her own touching post on Sunday:
“She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they’ve got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle,” Swift wrote. “Or peace of mind in knowing that they’re healthy and there’s nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She’s got an important battle to fight.”
