TIME LightBox presents a new monthly round-up of the best books, exhibitions and ways to experience photography beyond the web—from the Reportage Photography Festival in Sydney and a new Mitch Epstein book to Martin Parr’s ‘Life’s a Beach’ at Aperture in New York and an André Kertész show in London.

Despite the lack of socio-economic support from the government, they have managed to make a safe place for themselves to live, and form a community of their own, which is safer that the alternatives available to them. Correct Caption:Tikrit, April 14, 2003 In Saddam's hometown, a US Marine slides down a marble handrail in one of the dictator's extravagant palaces. The residence contained carpets worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and at least one golden toilet.
