Afghans observed the 10th anniversary of the death of leader Ahmed Shah Massoud's assassination by Al Qaeda agents, only two days before the 9/11 attacks in the United States. The military leader played a leading role in driving the Soviet army out of Afghanistan, earning him the name Lion of Panjshir.
