August 6, 2011. A suspected rebel member of Al-Shabab was captured by Amisom (African mission in Somalia) in Mogadishu shortly after the militant group withdrew from the last four districts that they held after heavy fighting through out the night, Somalia. Reports state that the conflict has hindered aid efforts in the famine-hit country, with the militia barring some aid agencies from central and southern areas it controls.Antoine de Ras—EPA
August 9, 2011. An Earth-directed X6.9 flare(R) that began at 3:48 AM EDT, and peaked at 4:05 AM EDT. The flare burst from sun spot region AR11263, before it rotated out of view. These gigantic bursts of radiation cannot pass through Earth's atmosphere to harm humans on the ground, however they can disrupt the atmosphere and disrupt GPS and communications signals. The flare is strong enough to potentially cause some radio communication blackouts. It also produced increased solar energetic proton radiation — enough to affect humans in space if they do not protect themselves. Israel's parliament passed a housing bill aimed at alleviating the country's shortage of homes by cutting red tape to speed up the approval of building projects.
