Somebody is leaving The View. And it’s not who everybody thought. The other Rosie—Rosie O’Donnell—is exiting the ABC daytime talk show after returning to the chat-fest last fall.
O’Donnell’s publicist released this statement, which also revealed the actress has split with her wife Michelle: “I can confirm that Rosie and her wife Michelle split in November. Rosie has teens and an infant at home that need her attention. This has been a very stressful situation. She is putting her personal health and family first. ABC has been wonderfully understanding and supportive of her personal decision to leave The View.”
While ABC released this statement, which likewise said O’Donnell opted to exit the show on her own: “Rosie is an immensely talented star who comes in each and every morning brimming with ideas, excitement and passion for the show. When she told us that she wanted to exit The View, we respected and understood her desire to put her well-being and her family first. We’re delighted she’s still part of the ABC family with upcoming guest appearances on The Fosters. And we know she’ll return to The Viewoften with her unique point of view and updates on her work and her family.”
O’Donnell will co-host the show next week, which will be her last on the series. She previously co-hosted The View from 2006-07. No word yet who will replaceO’Donnell, though Naya Rivera was recently confirmed to be return as a guest host and is reportedly staying for additional episodes.
The View has been engulfed in rumors of behind-the-scenes fighting and turmoil recently amid declining ratings. Last month, O’Donnell’s co-host, Rosie Perez, was widely rumored to be exiting the show, but ended up staying on board.
