A new medical drama could be on the way: the 19th episode of NBC’s Chicago Fire, which films later this month, will be set in a Chicago hospital and is being touted as the basis of a medical spinoff.
Although it has yet to be ordered as a pilot, NBC is already considering converting Chicago Medical into a stand-alone series, according to the Hollywood Reporter. If that goes ahead, this would be Chicago Fire’s second spinoff, following Chicago PD.
NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt told reporters last month that Chicago Medical “is something that we’re just seeding into the system, seeing if there’s a show there that could eventually spin off into itself.”
There are several other medical pilots being produced this season, THR reports: NBC’s Heart Matters, ABC’s The Advocate, and CBS’s Code Black and LFE.
