When we last heard from Skylar Grey, she was asking the tough questions on Nicki Minaj’s “Bed of Lies.” She’s back with an equally moody, though somewhat less depressing, piano ballad for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack—in other words, she’s showing listeners a different shade of (Skylay) Grey.
She didn’t just get the job because of her last name, though. Grey has a knack for writing about messed-up relationships, as she did as the songwriter behind Eminem and Rihanna’s hit collaboration “Love the Way You Lie,” and Fifty Shades is the perfect opportunity for that. This song is called “I Know You,” and its lyrics resemble things Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) probably whispers longingly to Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) when they aren’t exploring their kinky sides.
