Frank Ocean shared his rendition of Aaliyah’s “At Your Best (You Are Love)” on his Tumblr to celebrate what would have been the late pop singer’s 36th birthday on Friday.
Originally an Isley Brothers tune from 1976, Aaliyah famously covered the song in 1994 on her album Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number.
Ocean sings the track with a soaring falsetto, in a remarkably stripped down version of the song. At the end, the Channel Orange singer tacks on an apparently unrelated sample. Ocean is working on an anticipated LP with producers Pharrell Williams, Danger Mouse, Rodney Jerkins and Hit-Boy, Rolling Stone reports.
Aaliyah and eight others were killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas in August 2001.
