Arizona is the least-followed NFL team on Twitter. After Saturday night, it might have even fewer followers.
After the Cardinals lost their NFC wild-card game to the Carolina Panthers 27-16, the team’s official Twitter account thanked users who sent positive tweets, then bashed the haters.
Conjuring up the popular image of Twitter antagonists being recluses typing animosity directly from the same futon they slept on in high school, the least-followed team on Twitter urged those “clowns” spewing “vulgarities” to come up “out of the basement” and “enjoy” their lives.
The clowns in question were likely upset over the fact Arizona gained 78 total yards in Saturday’s loss. In the entire game. That’s an NFL postseason record for lack of offense.
It was never supposed to look this bleak for the Cardinals, who started the season winning nine of their first 10 games and jumping out to an improbable lead in the NFC West before losing quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton to injuries and losing five of their last seven, including the playoff game.
