These Are Charli XCX’s Favorite Karaoke Songs

2 minute read

Charli XCX writes the kind of songs you want to belt at the top of your lungs during a big night out. She did it with Icona Pop’s “I Love It” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” and she’s doing it again with her new album, Sucker, out now. So when TIME spent a day with the “Boom Clap” singer back in September talking about the future of pop music, we also had to ask — what does Charli XCX like to sing when she does karaoke?

“Kiss” by Prince
“I had a karaoke machine when I was younger, and I would sing that over and over on repeat on my own. I just like doing his voice. He’s like a god. That song is amazing, and the video is so tight.”

“Let Me Blow Ya Mind” by Eve featuring Gwen Stefani
“It’s just a girl power anthem, and I think it’s definitely the best female collaboration that’s happened in the past 20 years. And the video is next-level. It’s such a badass song.”

“All Star” by Smash Mouth
“When everyone’s drunk and bro-ing out, it’s the best. It just makes me laugh so much.”

“Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinéad O’Connor
“It’s a pretty deep one. I did karaoke with Sky Ferreira once and she did that song a lot. It was really intense — we sang it together. It was really funny.”
