Peter and Bobby Farrelly are responsible for more than a few film favorites: There’s Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber and Me, Myself & Irene, to name a few.
The filmmakers talked to Entertainment Weekly about their work – including the upcoming Dumb & Dumber To – in the latest episode of the magazine’s Lightbulb series.
The brothers all agree that many classic lines from the original film were overlooked when it first opened, and a fan favorite, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance,” was almost cut by the studio “… because it got no laughs – none,” Peter says.
“The little lines that people remember, they were not the lines that were getting laughs in the original premiere 20 years ago,” Bobby says. “But if you watch it over and over and over, those lines are the ones that stick with you and those are the ones that are quoted now.”
EW Lightbulb is a 10-part video series on EW, sponsored by Glade. Episode 1 featured Morgan Spurlock, Episode 2 featured Tavi Gevinson, and Episode 4, to come next week, will feature Rashida Jones.
