Now and then in the history of sports there’s a singular moment that leaves fans awestruck and speechless all at once: a Hail Mary pass for the national championship, a half court shot in the last seconds of the series, a last at bat for one of the most beloved players in the history of baseball.
Derek Jeter’s game-winning final swing from home plate at Yankee Stadium Thursday night, closing out a two-decade career that endeared him to baseball fans across the country, was one such moment.
