Santana or Paul McCartney & Wings? In the theatrical release of American Hustle, director David O. Russell chose the latter for Jennifer Lawrence’s living room lip-syncing performance. But now, thanks to a deleted scene available on the film’s DVD, audiences can see what might have been had Russell gone in a different direction.
Not unlike her enthusiastic performance of “Live and Let Die” in the film’s final cut, Lawrence goes all out for her faux rendition of Santana’s 1969 song “Evil Ways,” lip-syncing, dancing and vacuuming for four minutes.
The 23-year-old Lawrence was nominated for her third Academy Award for the role of Rosalyn Rosenfeld in American Hustle — which also starred Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams — but she lost to 12 Years a Slave‘s Lupita Nyong’o.
Could choosing Santana over Wings have helped her cause? There’s no way to know, but at least now audiences will have the chance to enjoy both. American Hustle hit store shelves on DVD and Blu-Ray Tuesday.
