Get ready for a brand new Doctor, as BBC America has announced the premiere date for the next season of Doctor Who.
Fans of the cult show will have the chance to get to know the 12th Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi, on Saturday, Aug. 23. Scottish actor and director Capaldi, who has appeared in previous BBC shows The Thick of It and The Hour, will replace Matt Smith in the series titular role. Capaldi was first introduced during last year’s 50th anniversary Doctor Who special and in the final moments of the Christmas special episode.
The show has become a BBC phenomenon, with Doctor Who fans springing up all over the world. Ahead of the premiere, Capaldi and co-star Jenna Coleman (who plays the Doctor’s companion Clara Oswald) will make an appearance in New York City on Aug. 14 as part of a Doctor Who tour. The tour begins in Cardiff with scheduled stops in London, Seoul, Sydney, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro.
