Consensus says Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX have the song of the summer with their chart-topping hit “Fancy.” Icona Pop says, “I. Don’t. Care.”
The Swedish duo continues its annual campaign for song of the summer by following up last month’s Tiësto collaboration “Let’s Go” with a track of their own. Taking the approach of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” the new single “Get Lost” is unsurprisingly on-brand: Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo sing about taking nothing from nobody, skipping town like rock stars and partying into the night — only this time, they have some electric guitar solos to boost the energy.
The girls could use a disco nap, though. Icona Pop may be the Swedish pop gift that keeps on giving, but they’ll burn out soon if they keep churning out songs like this one. “Get Lost” manages to rise above generic filler territory, but it can’t compete with previous “I Love It” sequels like “Girlfriend” (with its catchy na-na-nas) or “All Night” (YOLO pop at its fist-pumping finest). Even “Let’s Go,” which Frankensteined a number of EDM trends together, had a bit more bite. In short: We don’t love it, We don’t care.
