Miley Cyrus is known for walking her own path. From her fashion choices to her music, there’s no denying the former Disney Channel star has blossomed into a free spirit in recent years, open to speaking her mind on a range of issues.
In a recent interview for the October issue of Elle, Cyrus spoke about the entertainment industry, explaining that she refuses to plug in to one major aspect of celebrity culture: red carpets. “[A year ago] I had to do the [A Very Murray Christmas] premiere, and I will never do a red carpet again,” she told Elle. “Why, when people are starving, am I on a carpet that’s red? Because I’m ‘important’? Because I’m ‘famous’? That’s not how I roll. It’s like a skit—it’s like Zoolander.”
The 23-year-old Bangerz artist also revealed how she plans to motivate her contestants on The Voice during her upcoming first season as a judge. “I don’t want this to come off the wrong way, but I’m going to tell my contestants: Be Bernie Sanders,” she said. “Be the person people want and love. Don’t worry about the masses. That’s how you make a memorable moment. Let people talk about it.”
