Fame has a price, and the Los Angeles gallery that just showed the sculpture from Kanye West’s “Famous” music video hopes that price will be $4 million.
Last weekend, the Blum & Poe gallery held a private exhibition of “Famous” — a lifelike silicone tableau of 12 famous people, lying in a wide bed around West and his wife Kim Kardashian West. Kim, Kendall Jenner and Olivia Munn were among those on the bed when West introduced the piece over a video call at the opening.
The sculpture’s figures, clad only in white sheets, include Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, Bill Cosby, Anna Wintour, Rihanna and George W. Bush. Batteries power their chests to rise and fall as if breathing deeply in sleep. The music video in which the sculpture was featured provoked mixed reactions for its portrayals of the naked celebrities in June.
