Listen to Miley Cyrus Get Emo in New Stripped-Down Lolawolf Single ‘Teardrop’

Disney renegade Miley Cyrus has been keeping her vocal talent pretty under wraps lately, with no imminent album or tour plans in the works. But today, electropop band Lolawolf (fronted by Zoë Kravitz, daughter of the legendary Lenny) dropped a new single featuring Cyrus’s distinctive drawl.

The stripped-down song, “Teardrop,” is equal parts eerie and catchy. Cyrus comes in strong to recite a distorted, morbid spoken interlude, too.

“Forever is like Jesus, it’s just / Something that we’ve made our self believe in / So… makes maybe our death a little less scary,” she opines. “Love’s not a game and if it is I don’t want to play.” (So far, it’s only available on iTunes and Apple Music.)

It doesn’t have quite the emotional heft of “Wrecking Ball” or banger quality of “We Can’t Stop,” but the slow-burning melody — like a boozed-up Lorde song — is a nice antidote to summer’s string of poppy earworms. Lolawolf is set to release their debut album before the season is out; previously, the trio band had opened for Cyrus’s Bangerz tour.

Cyrus, meanwhile, has most recently been spotted hanging with her former fiancé Liam Hemsworth and getting a tattoo of the Aussie savory spread Vegemite last week. Her last album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, came out in August of last year.
