Moviegoers in California were accidentally treated to a trailer for Sausage Party, a profanity-laced and raunchy R-rated animation, before a showing for the kid-friendly Finding Dory.
The gaffe earlier this month at the Brenden Concord 14 in Concord prompted an apology from the movie theater, Brenden Theatres, and delight from Seth Rogen, who lends his voice for the upcoming film.
“Playing that trailer was a one-time honest mistake by a theater manager moving screens around in effort to accommodate several large last-minute groups wanting to see Dory,” Walter Eichinger, Brenden’s vice president of operations, said in a statement to the East Bay Times.
“It was caught soon, but not until the trailer played,” he added. “We regret it, apologize for it, and we are not happy that it happened. We fully realize this trailer is not appropriate for Dory and we would never schedule something like that.”
Sausage Party tells the story of a group of supermarket products that embark on an adventure to find the meaning of life beyond the grocery store shelves. The trailer features obscene language and graphic scenes of some of the characters being sliced up.
“This made my day,” Rogen tweeted along with a link to a local news story about the error.
