Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley has spoken out about her struggles with endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome in a candid new Instagram post.
Sharing a photo of herself smiling in a red T-shirt and a facial mask, the 24-year-old English actress wrote Thursday that she has endured years of consultations, pain, and skin problems as a result of her conditions. Fortunately, after trying countless products and treatments, “progress is being made” with help from a dermatologist and some dietary adjustments.
“Throughout all this I’ve only had people being wonderful and encouraging and occasionally making me realise I’m being ridiculous and there’s more to life,” she wrote.
Ridley is the latest celebrity to publicly address her battles with endometriosis, a chronic condition in which tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows elsewhere in the body. Girls creator Lena Dunham opened up about her experiences in her Lenny Letter newsletter in November, and Padma Lakshmi did so in her recent memoir Love, Loss and What We Ate.
Ridley concluded her post with a message: “[T]o any of you who are suffering with anything, go to a doctor; pay for a specialist; get your hormones tested, get allergy testing; keep on top of how your body is feeling and don’t worry about sounding like a hypochondriac. From your head to the tips of your toes we only have one body, let us all make sure ours our working in tip top condition, and take help if it’s needed.”
